Telephony settings

The router supports telephony services over Internet, also referred to as VoIP (Voice over IP).

Choose Enable Voice-Over-IP (VoIP) to setup the VoIP services and fill in the requested fields. Normally the service provider provides you with instructions and the information needed to setup the service.

  • Enter phone number
  • The phone number to use for the VoIP service or in some cases a user name.
  • Enter server name
  • Domain name or IP address in quad-dotted notation to the service providers softswitch
  • Enter password
  • The password is entered as a text string

The router uses the SIP protocol to utilize the VoIP services.

Quad-dotted notation is a way to write in IP address (IPv4). The format uses four groups of numbers separated by a “period”. Each group of numbers can have a value in the range 0 to 255. An example of such an IP address is 10.220.1.231.

Domain Name notation is a way to write an IP address in a textual format. The Domain name is automatically translated to an IP address via a DNS (Domain Name Server) service in the network.
